That means more parents and children entering emergency shelters or doubling up in unstable conditions. But what’s even more troubling is how often their situation goes unnoticed—families quietly sleeping in cars, bouncing between friends’ homes, or living week-to-week in motels just trying to hold on.

A Crisis We Can’t Ignore

Family homelessness is one of the most underreported forms of housing insecurity—because it hides in plain sight. Unlike chronic homelessness, it doesn't always show up on sidewalks or in encampments. But it's happening every day across Atlanta.

  • Children arriving to school without a consistent place to sleep

  • Parents struggling to maintain work while navigating housing instability

  • Entire households living on the margins, unseen by the systems meant to support them

What This Means for Singleton Legacy Homes

At Singleton Legacy Homes, our model is currently designed to serve individuals, including seniors, veterans, and those reentering the community from incarceration. While we do not house families at this time, we understand that rising family homelessness is a critical part of the broader crisis.

This rise reinforces why alternative, community-based housing models are so necessary—especially those offering structure, dignity, and real support to adults trying to regain their footing.

We work closely with referral partners—case workers, parole officers, and social service agencies—who often encounter families and individuals in need. And while our homes may not be a fit for everyone, we remain part of the ecosystem of care that’s trying to close the gaps.

We Can’t Do It All—But We Can Do Our Part

The 14% rise in family homelessness is heartbreaking. And while Singleton Legacy Homes focuses on seniors and individuals, we stand in solidarity with every organization, partner, and advocate working to ensure no family is left without shelter, safety, or support.

Our mission continues:
To be a clean slate, a safe space, and a renewed journey—for those who walk through our doors.
