Why I Chose to Build This Home
Some people build a business. Others build a brand.

I chose to build a home—but not from scratch. These walls already held stories. I’d been renting this house for years to individuals with limited income, trying to offer safe, affordable housing in a world that too often puts those things out of reach.
But deep down, I knew the work could go further.
What if these homes didn’t just offer shelter—but support?
What if they offered structure, community, dignity, and a real chance to start over?
That’s where the vision for Singleton Legacy Homes began.
Rooted in Legacy
This work stands on the shoulders of those who came before me—especially one woman whose quiet strength and deep compassion shaped everything I believe about what it means to serve: my mother-in-law, Mary Frances Williams Singleton.
She was a giver in the truest sense. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic—when fear was everywhere and so many were struggling—she chose not to charge her tenants rent for six months.
Not because she had excess.
Not because she had to.
But because she believed in helping people when they need it most.
She has since passed on, but her kindness remains etched into the foundation of everything we are building. Singleton Legacy Homes is part of that inheritance—a continuation of her legacy of care, community, and quiet generosity.
A Life of Care, Carried Forward
My late husband shared that same heart. Thoughtful. Generous. Steady. The kind of man who offered warmth even when words were few.
While he’s no longer here physically, the work I do now carries both their spirits. The intention. The love. The belief that people can grow when given a little grace.
From Rental to Renewal
The shift from renting to individuals in need to creating a shared-living model wasn’t just a business move—it was a calling.
I saw the gap. I felt the weight. i heard the stories of people who didn’t just need housing—they needed healing.
So I began to transform the spaces. Not just cosmetically—but spiritually. I reimagined what these homes could be:
A space of dignity and accountability
A space of structure without shame
A space where people could belong
This is no longer just about filling rooms. It’s about restoring lives.
The Legacy We’re Leaving
We're doing this for every person who’s been pushed to the margins.
For those whose stories rarely get told.
For the future residents who will walk through these doors needing a safe place to land—and maybe, for the first time, a reason to hope.
And I’m doing this for my children—so they know that legacy isn’t just about what you leave behind. It’s about what you build while you’re here.
Today, Singleton Legacy Homes includes more than one address. We have a few homes—each one preparing to welcome residents into a space shaped by compassion and intention. And this is just the beginning.
We’re not done. Not even close.
Because as long as there are people without a place to belong, we’ll keep building.
